Introduction to Press Releases

Press releases are essential to getting information about your business to as many people as possible.

Press releases are essentially providing information to news editors about your business.   A press release is a short who, what, where, when, why and how the information about your business would be interesting to their audience.

When you are writing a press release think of the first paragraph of a newspaper article.  The first paragraph provides the basic information about the article, so that readers can know at a glance if the article is worth reading.

Getting your press release to the attention of editors, and reporters is essential to gaining valuable word of mouth advertising for your business.

So how do you know what is significant enough for a press release?

A newsworthy event would be the release of a new web site, product, service; receiving a major award, or review from a publication; major customer acquisitions; major employee hiring ,and promotions; corporate milestones, and more.

As a part of the press release, you should include important contact information, and a web address to where editors, or reporters could go to find out more information about the product or service.  This will allow editors to find out more information through the web site, since a web site will allow for more detailed information than is suitable for the press release itself.

In the footer includes a short synopsis of your company similar to "XYZ Corporation is a leading global manufacturer of widgets, based in Boulder, Colorado."
